Make sure your members know the value of being a SON, it is more than a discount card, more than bowling, curling and meetings, it is a Priceless Heritage, provide by our parent’s, grandparent’s and great grandparent’s service in these United States of America’s Armed Forces. It is because of the sacrifice they made and continue to make that we enjoy daily the freedoms we have and with these freedoms comes responsibilities. To be a SON is to be an active member of your Squadron, Community, and Nation. We are Partners in Service to America.
Sad News: Squadron 10 Wausau announces the passing of Squadron Commander James Seehafer.

National Standings: we are 7th in the Nation, and 2nd in the Region for overall membership, we are 6th in the Nation for retention, do not lose those members once you sign them up as they are our future.
We have 909 members from 2009 who have not renewed as of February 24th, what are we doing to retain those valued members?
The Membership Report for February 24 2010, is posted on our web site www.wisal.org, under Membership Reports.

A Students Praise
Thanks Veterans
I thank you down to my core
For serving in a war.
I have much gratitude
For your attitude
I ask no more.
Although you might be old
I still think you’re very bold.

Workers are needed at the Conference for the National Guard Family Readiness Volunteers
The American Legion & American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring the awards ($1200) given during the Conference for the National Guard Family Readiness Volunteers.
The conference is to provide an update to their volunteers as to what is happening, train them on new programs and reward them for their constant support throughout the year.
The conference is being held April 09 - 11 in Wausau at the Patriot Center.
The coordinator of this conference has offered to give us space in the resource area for distribution of our Legion Family program materials and membership and/or she would see that Legion Family information is included in the packets for the conference attendees.
Your duties would be to help with the booth, handout brochures and answer questions and encourage membership for the Legion Family.
Gladys Beese and Unit 10 have agreed to be on hand to assist with children, because Post/Unit 10 is hosting the Department Convention in July, I do not think we should ask them to do more.

2010 National Convention We are hosting the National Convention, at the Midwest Airline Center in Milwaukee August 27-30 2010.
The Detachment will sponsor two activities, a golf tournament Thursday August 26 and the Dinner Dance Friday August 27 hosted at Squadron #120 Tanner Paull, West Allis. We will need help from your squadrons to make these a success, we need volunteers to help at the golf outing, dinner dance, sell convention pins, raffles tickets at convention and more. Visit our web site for tours and other details, http://www.sal.legion.org/commissions/convention.html
We want a large contingent of Wisconsin Sons attending the National Convention; we need you! Bring your officers and members and become involved, informed and enjoy the camaraderie. If you cannot attend all three days, get people from your squadron to help each day. Preregistration is required.
Please contact, Michael Lawler, National Convention Chairman to volunteer, adjutant@wisal.org, or 608-795-4345 (leave a message).

Detachment Convention July 16-17-18
Mark your calendars for July 16-17-18 2010, as the planning of the 42 Annual Detachment Convention is well underway. We had our walk through of the Wausau East High School; we will be in the same lecture hall as 2005, which is a great location and set up for us.
We will be starting convention earlier on Friday to accommodate the nominations, guest speakers and other activities so plan your vacation requests now. Saturday, we hold Elections at 10:30, (National Convention Delegates, and Alternates are appointed at this time also), Awards Luncheon around noon, Installation of Officers in the afternoon, workshops late afternoon. Sunday following the Post Convention DEC, the Officers Development Team will have more training workshops.
Squadron 10 is planning events and activities along with the Post and Unit. Watch for details in the Badger Legionnaire closer to July.
In June, make sure your squadron sends in your delegates, alternates and guests certifications and registrations
Potential New SquadronsTheses Posts and others have expressed an interest in Chartering a Sons of The American Legion Squadron, our Vice Commanders are working with them to assist with the charter application process. If your Post would like information on how to charter a squadron, please contact our officers.

Convention O Wisconsin Pin
When the news of having the National Convention back in Milwaukee came up, we were ecstatic. This is a great opportunity for the Detachment, and your Squadron, there is a lot to learn, things to do, and friends to reconnect with or make anew.
The National Convention Pin design and sales is also one of the rewards. If you were at the Midwinter Conference, you had the chance to see the launch of the 2010 National Convention Milwaukee Pin, nicknamed the “Convention O Wisconsin” pin or The COW Pin for short. In March, your Squadron will receive an advance sales order blank, or print one up and order now to beat the rush.
Do you ever wonder how some squadrons can raise so much money for the Child Welfare Foundation, the Commanders Project, and National Emergency Fund? They seize opportunities when they present themselves or create their own opportunities. This is your chance to seize the Day! Your Squadron will be able to use this National Convention Pin as a fundraiser as we have set up discounted pricing for you. The more you order the more you can make.
Be a part of the Herd, get your barn full now!
DistrictsIn addition to our Squadrons, we are all an important part of a larger community. Your involvement in our counties, districts, the detachment and the national organization works to make us a stronger more efficient group. As you can see even a small change, can have a big impact, mere fractions of a percent separate some of the Districts, and a few new and reinstated members, can change your standings on the reports. Have a meeting with the other Squadrons in your area; see what is working for them, work as a team.

Stop the BleedRetention is as important as signing up new members, here is a little history lesson:
Since 2002 we have lost 3534 members, enough to more than double our Detachment

Where did these members go? Did they forget the Value of Being a SON? We have an obligation to reach out to them, reinstate them, and get them involved.

Squadrons on the MendWe know that each squadron operates a little differently and these squadron are working to bring in their membership. We do remind everyone not to hold onto membership, you can send in one at a time as they come in. If you do hold membership, do not hold them past the first of the year, as this causes your members become delinquent and no longer in good standing. They may lose their continual years and benefits.
