Commander Powers and the Detachment Officers wish you a Very Merry Christmas and a Safe New Year.
We are ninth in the Nation and second in the Central Region still lagging behind Minnesota.

Michael Lawler, Detachment Adjutant
Hotel Options Added for Midwinter
Due to an overwhelming response and many Legionnaires being anxious to attend the Mid-Winter Conference, the Wilderness Hotel is completely booked.
The Department has made arrangements with two other hotels in the area to accomodate the needs of those still wishing to attend.
Ho-Chunk Casino
The Department has made arrangements for a block of rooms to be held at the Ho-Chuck Casino down the road to accommodate those who have not yet made reservations. The Casino will run FREE a shuttle back and forth to the Wilderness for guests convenience.
The room rate is $79/night.
You can make a reservation at the Ho-Chunk Casino by calling (800) 746-2486.
The rooms are reserved under the "American Legion - Portage" block.
Grand Marquis
The Grand Marquis, which is located less than one mile from the Wilderness, is also holding rooms for the Department.
Rooms can be booked there for $59/night for Thursday and Friday and for $78/night for Saturday.
The first night stay will be charged to your credit card at the time of booking.
To book a room at the Grand Marquis call them at (800) 447-2636 and ask for The American Legion block.
For Those who have Reservations at the Wilderness
After the December 29th deadline, there is a 72-hour cancellation policy per room. Reservations canceled prior to the 72- hour mark will be charged a $20 fee. Cancellations within the 72-hours pay for the entire room rate.

Renewal Post CardsThe 2nd mailing of the SAL renewal postcard will be processed and mailed in January. We expect this mailing to be dropped in the mail on or about January 25th to all SAL members whose record at National Headquarters shows unpaid for 2010. We expect approximately 90,000 postcards to be mailed for this second notice. A follow up postcard mailing will be made in April of 2010 which will be the last one for the 2010 membership year. Just a reminder, these mailings are made in conjunction and subsequent to membership target dates. Therefore, please follow these membership target dates closely. Please, “transmit”, as many Squadrons hold membership. This saves the organization considerable dollars in postage costs. All three mailings will be made usually within a couple of days following the target in that respective month of mailing. The membership target dates are posted on the SAL web page at {www.sal.legion.org}.
