Come watch your future leaders, the youth of today, as they compete for scholarships with their oration on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They are very talented young men and women and you owe it to yourself and them to experience this annual event.

$1000.00 Scholarship OfferedThe "Wisconsin Sons of The American Legion Scholarship."
The amount of this scholarship is payable in two payments of $ 500.00 to the school upon verification of recipients actual enrollment at the institution.
The recipient must be a current member, in good standing, of the Sons of The American Legion, Detachment of Wisconsin, with no less than (3) three consecutive years of membership.
The applicant MUST be in his LAST year of HIGH SCHOOL when applying or within one year after graduation from high school.
Applications MUST be received at Detachment Headquarters, no later than April 1st of each year, in which it is to be awarded.
The following factors will be used in selecting the recipient.
a) Scholastic Record
b )Contributions to School and Community
c) Squadron Involvement
d) 100+ word Essay
e) Financial Need

2009 Newsletter Publication ContestThe Wisconsin American Legion Press Association (WALPA) Committee is encouraging all Wisconsin American Legions, Auxiliary Units, SAL Squadrons, County, District, 40et8 Voitures, and Legion Riders organizations’ newsletter editors to enter the 2009 Publications Contest. There are many fine publications throughout the Department. We are looking for the Best of the Best that deserve recognition and bragging rights. WALPA members in good
standing may submit entries. WALPA's annual dues are $5. The majority of the dues collected fund the annual Publications contest. Winning entries will be displayed and plaques and certificates will be awarded at the 2009 Department of Wisconsin Convention. Thank

Funeral Honors Training/Certification February 21st in Barneveld· Saturday February 21

Veterans groups who complete the certification program will not only gain updated procedures and information on conducting honors, but will also be certified if their organization desires to apply for the reimbursement of honors.
Upon completion of the certification, the Veterans Service Organization and individual members of the honor teams will receive a certificate and funeral honors lapel pin.
Yes, Sons of The American Legion are eligible to be certified and are encouraged to assist their Post with Military Funerals.
They should also help setup Funeral Honors Training/Certification in their Squadron, County, or District.
