Paid Up For Life PUFL Membership
We are getting one-step closer to putting together a PUFL membership for the Sons of The American Legion. The results of our survey are our members would like a Detachment maintained Paid Up For Life membership option. Our Membership Committee has collected data on other Detachment run PUFLs, and Date of Birth information to assist in the development of the program.
Currently we lack the number of date of birth records we require to complete our program, your assistance will help. Make sure your squadron has recorded and submitted the DOB information for your members, you may use the DOB Information Form, available on the National Sons web site, or the Change of Address link on the National Legion web site

HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP
Honorary life membership is something that can be awarded by a Squadron/Post
to an individual for a specific deed or act. He must be an existing SAL member
and eligible for membership in accordance with the established eligibility
criteria as outlined in the SAL National Constitution. Do not confuse this
with any Detachment paid for life programs. This is only a Squadron/Post award,
where authorized. To report this information, you can submit a member data
form and mark the appropriate block “Honorary Life”. The record
will be coded at National Headquarters. When the annual membership cards & registers
are printed, a code “H” will appear on the membership register
that denotes “Honorary Life”. Older versions of the member data
form do not contain this block. In that case, just write on the form wherever
space is permitting. Squadron/Post Adjutants should sign this form to confirm
this status.
If awarded, the Squadron is responsible for submitting the annual membership
dues accordingly. If the Squadron does not submit the membership dues, the
responsibility reverts to the individual. The life program is not transferable
to any other Post/Squadron. Caution should be exercised in
awarding this award, as the Squadron is responsible for accounting for
this action for the life of the individual.
