SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION
DETACHMENT OF WISCONSIN’S
40th ANNUAL CONVENTION
To: Detachment Officers, Past Detachment of Wisconsin Commanders, State Advisory Committee, Department Liaison, Commission/ Committee Chairman and Members, County and District Commanders, Squadron Commanders, Adjutant’s, Advisors and Members.
Pursuant to Article V, of the Detachment Constitution and the Uniform Code
of Procedure for Convention, of the Sons of The American Legion, Commander
Kirk D Hove, here-by calls for the 40th Annual Detachment Convention. The
Convention shall be held, July 18 thru July 20 2008 the LaCrosse Center La
Crosse Center, 300 Harborview Plaza, La Crosse, WI 54601http://www.lacrossecenter.com/
All sessions, including those of the Detachment Executive Committee, shall
be held in the Zeilke Suite All Convention sessions will be in accordance
with the Uniform Code of Procedure for Detachment Conventions and will be
convened at 9:00 A.M. July 19, 2008.
The 40th Annual Detachment Convention shall be convened for the following purposes
To complete all unfinished business of the Sons of The American Legion
for the Fiscal year 2007 – 2008.
To vote on all resolutions properly presented to the Detachment Convention.
To consider and/or make amendments to the Constitution and By-Laws.
To elect, a for a one year term, a Detachment Commander, (4) Vice Commanders,
Finance Officer, Chaplain, (2) Sgt-at-Arms.
To elect, for a two year term, a National Executive Committeeman and Alternate
NEC
To elect National Convention Delegates and Alternates. Elections of the
above will take place on Saturday morning July 19, 2008 at 10:30 A.M.
To Appoint 12 District SAL Chairmen.
To present Detachment Awards to Squadrons and Individuals.
To

To meet and socialize with your comrades in the organization
DETACHMENT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
The Pre-Convention D.E.C. meeting will be held Friday July 18, 2008 at 3:00
PM in the Zeilke Suite of the LaCrosse Center La Crosse Center, 300 Harborview
Plaza, La Crosse, WI 54601.
The Post Convention D.E.C. meeting will also be held in the same location,
following the adjournment of the Detachment Convention on Sunday July 20,
2008
REPRESENTATION
Representation to the Detachment Convention shall be allotted in accordance
with the provisions of Article V, Sections 4-5-7 and 8 of the Detachment
Constitution. All delegates and alternates to the Convention will be required
to register.
REGISTRATION
All delegates and alternate delegates are required to register with the American
Legion Convention Corporation and pay the appropriate fees. Registration
for Squadron delegates (for voting credentials) will open at 8:30 A.M.
July 18th in the La Crosse Center and again July 19th at 8:30 A.M. until
10:00 A.M.
DETACHMENT CONVENTION RESOLUTIONS
In accordance with the Uniform Code of Procedure, the Adjutant shall receive
General Resolutions no later than (30) days prior to the opening of the
Convention and (45) days for Constitutional Resolutions.
AWARD PRESENTATIONS July 19th following the convention recess.
WORKSHOP/OPEN FORUM DISCUSSION July 19th following the Awards Presentation, this year we plan to have a workshop and give the squadrons an opportunity to share their success stories.
